 TRIKEFEST 2007

Trike Pilots and Trike Enthusiasts:
It’s Trikefest time again!

Trikefest 2007 Schedule of Events (includes SAFETY notice)
PreOshkosh TRIKEFEST July 20, 21, 22 – 2007 (weekend before the Monday Oshkosh starts).

For the third consecutive year, we are hosting a trike fly-in/camp-over at famous Cushing Field near Newark, IL on IL Rt. 71 (0C8 on the sectional). We’re trying to have as many trikes as possible since EAA is doing a story on this one, and we hope to do a group photo shot of all the trikes and their pilots, to be published in Sport Pilot Magazine.

Last year, with perfect weather, we were able to get in our Friendly Competition, BBQ and night-time presentation by Joe Duff (Operation Migration). We had about 40 trikes, their pilots, families and friends in attendance and a great time, socializing and camping, was had by all.

We plan on another friendly competition this year starting at 2 PM on Saturday July 21, with spot landing, water-balloon drop and maybe one other event. Tal Newhart, in his totally amazing Hirth powered Aeros, will probably win the sport landing contest again but all are welcome to at least try to beat him.

Note: The cross dressing contest has been canceled again this year because, once again, Jim Bair has said he would enter with his favorite "frilly chartreuse outfit". This, of course, means entering the contest for anybody else is a waste of time.

The BBQ will be hosted by the Cushing Field Trikers 5PM till 9PM on Saturday, July 21. We’ll provide meat, buns and beer (donations encouraged) and hopefully everyone could bring a dish to pass (or chips or cookies, etc.). It’s possible The Fish Dude will show up again but we’re not sure--all we can do is pray. Immediately following the BBQ, Scott Johnson (infamous trike driver from the Wild West) is scheduled to give a presentation.

A short Breakfast Fly-out will be possible Sunday morning to Prairie Lakes Country Club- about 10 miles south of Cushing. You might have read about this place in Ultraflight magazine—light aircraft are welcome to land in a designated area right on the golf course. And the food is pretty good too! In fact they have a few reasonably priced motel style rooms available. Their number is 815.795.5107 (reserve early).

Those continuing up to Oshkosh in their trikes generally do so as a group after breakfast. If Wayne Bezner Kerr shows up again maybe this year he won’t be so hung over that he can fly up with the rest of the group. Well, it’s possible

There will be some hangar space available for visiting trikes on a first-come-first-served basis. There is unlimited tie-down and camping space, and a few washroom facilities on the airfield. There are also a couple motels nearby, in addition to Prairie Lakes, but make reservations early.

If you read Tal’s cover story on Cushing Field in the March issue of Sport Pilot Magazine you know what a great vibe Cushing Field has for sport planes and ultralights. Come to the Trikefest and experience it for yourself!
